Jarrett Crippen was born and raised in Austin, Texas where he still resides.

At the age of 23, Jarrett became an Austin Police Officer and after nine years on patrol, was promoted to the rank of Detective, where he was assigned as a criminal investigator in 2001. He retired in 2017 with the rank of Master Detective after serving for 25 years.

In 2006, Jarrett followed his dream of teaching and became an instructor at the Austin Police Academy teaching cadets, officers and members of the public. He specializes in public communication and Criminal Interview & Interrogation. Jarrett has completed numerous courses and seminars on leadership and communication skills including the West Point Leadership Academy and Say It Loud; a public speaking certification seminar. He has also completed several voice acting workshops.

In 2007, Jarrett co-founded SCARE for a CURE, a non-profit organization that hosts an annual haunted house to raise money for cancer related charities. To date, SCARE has donated over $200,000 to various charities, primarily The Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas.

Also in 2007, Jarrett; a self-proclaimed comic book geek, auditioned for and was selected to be a cast member of Stan Lee’s “Who Wants to be a Superhero”, a reality show on the Sci-Fi Channel. In September of that same year, out of the 3,400 people who auditioned for the show, Jarrett won the contest and was proclaimed by Stan Lee as the world’s next great superhero!

As part of winning the show, Darkhorse Comics released; The Defuser, Issue #1 and Jarrett starred with Kevin Sorbo in the Syfy movie “Lightning Strikes”, which was filmed in Bulgaria in December of 2008.

As a host and MC, Jarrett is now a fixture at some of the world’s largest Comic Cons and Pop-Culture conventions. He also moderates Q&A panels for some of the industry’s most popular celebrities.

Jarrett’s passions include public speaking and storytelling. He is always looking for ways to educate adults and young people about how to be a hero in their own community as well as raise money for worthy causes.
